A DIY Spring Headband

Hi Scribblers!

Do you love to make your own accessories? Try this fun headband that has just the right colors for Spring!

To make this craft, you will need:
-Tulle- Pink, Yellow, Blue
- Scissors
- A Hair Elastic

To start, wrap a piece of tulle around your head to determine the appropriate length. Cut three strips, one of each color (Pink, Green, Purple). Tie one end of the three pieces of tulle to the hair elastic.

A small bit of the end of the tulle may remain; that’s okay. Begin braiding the colors and simply braid the left over end into it.

Continue with your braid until you make it to the end.

Tie the end to the same hair elastic. Trim any left over pieces.

Style your hair and rock your creativity with  your new stylish headband!

Today is National Popcorn Day!!!

Hi Scribblers!

Want to know something funny? Today is National Popcorn Day!

Just click on the image, download, print and get scribbley!

I LOVE popcorn!! The texture is so squishy, crunchy and fun! I love the fluffy shapes- they remind me of clouds!

Here is a fun tip on how to decorate (or accessorize!) with popcorn. This craft is tasty while it pops, and fun while you create!

Make Popcorn Garland!
-Make a fresh batch of popcorn
-Using a long piece of thread, thread a needle and string on popcorn pieces. Do this one at a time, sliding the needle through the center of the fluffy part of the popcorn. Once you have made a long enough piece of garland, decorate a tree, use as party decorations or even try painting them with tempera paints and glitter to make a fun and colorful necklace!

A Scribbley Approach to Inspiring Creativity (part 1)

Hi Scribblers!

My name is Andi. You may remember me- I’m the Chief Scribbler at Scribble Town! Since I was little girl, I have always loved everything creative. My heart was always happiest when I sat down with a pen and paper to just scribble and create new things. Sometimes, however, it can be hard to find that spark of inspiration to get you on the right track, so for today, I wanted to share with you some tips on Inspiring Creativity!

  1. Get out, try new things.  Go for a walk.  Take the time to experience the sights, sounds and smells that are all around you.  You will be able to draw upon your new experiences for inspiration.
  2. Keep an idea folder.  Every time you see something that you find interesting, place it in a folder, or file it in your computer or on Pinterest.
  3. Carry a SketchbookSketchbooks are great; scribble your ideas and your thoughts. Instead of writing out your thoughts, draw them! This is not intended to be for perfect drawings – it’s more of a diary for thoughts and inspiration.  I like to date the pages because it’s fun to thumb through them later and remember where I was and what inspired me.
  4. Look and see. Really look at an object or work of art and allow it to speak to you.  If you sit quietly and study the object you will see all types of things that you didn’t notice on first glance.  Look at the shape, the color, do the shapes and colors repeat themselves?  Use that experience to draw from when you create your next project.
  5. Experiment.  Adding just one new element to something you are working on can really spice things up! Take risks, challenge yourself and see what you come up with.  Don’t be afraid to experiment.

I hope these tips get your creative wheels turning! Start right now! Try one (or more) of these tips and see what you create. Don’t forget, you can always share your finished creations with us here on Scribble Blog or on our Facebook wall!

Check back on Friday for for part 2 of the Scribbley Approach to Inspiring Creativity!

Duct Tape Art!

Have you ever made anything with duct tape? I’ve never been into crafting with duct tape myself, but after a recent visit to the CHA conference, I came across the Duck Brand Duct Tape station and saw this…

These duct tape enthusiasts certainly got crafty with their medium! After seeing this, I purchased some colorful rolls of duct tape. I’m not sure what I’m going to make yet…but the wheels of inspiration are turning!

A Valentine’s Day Photo Frame!

Hi Scribblers!

I don’t know about you but when it comes to giving a gift, I’m always looking for something unique, special and intrinsically me! This year, make a DIY project with room for creativity! Looking for inspiration? Try making a Valentine’s Day Photo Frame for your special someone!

This craft is easy to create!

Supply Suggestions:
-A wooden photo frame (new or one you have around this house- edges should be smooth)
- Red Hemp Thread
- Natural Cross Stitch Fabric Linen
-Tacky Glue
- Embellishments.

To make this craft, simply trace the out line of the photo frame onto the fabric.

Cut the fabric about a 1/2″ from the lines of your tracing. In the center area, cut a snip into the angle of the frame so that this part of the fabic will easily fold around the edges.

Spread a thin layer of glue on your photo frame.

Glue flat against the frame to hold in place and be sure to smooth out the surface with your fingers. Fold the fabric around the edges of the frame for a finished look.

Next, using the red hemp thread, create twisty/fun designs around the frame, gluing the thread down as you move along. Add embellishments to the frame  by gluing them to the thread. Lay frame flat and let dry.

Insert a picture of your loved one and present your hand crafted frame as a gift!

Make a Hand Print Memory Craft

Hi Scribblers!

Do you find it hard to make crafts with your toddlers? How do you inspire creativity in your preschoolers? At those young ages, arts & crafts is a great way to preserve memories of how little they were. Today, we made this palm pet sheep.

The base of this sheep was made from the outline of a hand. This craft can be great to display on your fridge as a magnet or on your desk to remind you of them throughout the day.

To make this craft, you will need:
-White Foam (or Felt)
-Black Foam
-Googley Eyes
-Glitter
-Rubber Cement
-Glue

To start, help your little one trace the outline of their hand and cut out the tracing. Cut off the base of the palm just beneath the thumb.

Draw an outline similar to a cloud for the sheep’s body onto a piece of white foam. The foam piece should be large enough to cover the palm tracing to leave the fingers exposed. Glue the foam body piece to the palm tracing leave just the tips of the fingers exposed.

Decorate the sheep’s body with curly designs using glitter and glue.

Glue the googley eye onto the sheep’s face (the thumb). Add glitter embellishment for the hoofs of the sheep (other four fingers) and the face (thumb) using glitter and glue.

Hang up the little sheep craft for everyone to enjoy!
