It’s Find a Rainbow Day!

Hi Scribblers!

With sunny skies, it may not be the best day to find a rainbow- but we can still take today make a rainbow craft and think about how beautiful they are! Today we made a rainbow window sticker!

Using contact paper and permanent colored markers, you can create your own rainbow sticker! A rainbow is made up of seven primary colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. In school, I was taught to remember the colors by the name, “Roy G. Biv.” Each letter is the first letter of a color in the color order they appear in the rainbow!

Rainbows tend to symbolize peace and happiness and in children’s shows (such as Dora the Explorer), they are associated with happiness and laughter. The bright colors are appealing to children. Why don’t you take some time today to sit down with your little one and teach them about rainbows and how they are formed? The next time there is a sun shower, take the opportunity to look for and find a rainbow with your kids!

Happy Scribbling!

This craft can be finished with many different outcomes! Try using different colors, different ball sizes and pipe cleaner lengths. Try adding glitter or rhinestones! Have fun & Get Scribbley!

To make Asure the Bird, you will need:
- Scissors
-Blue Tissue Paper*
- Liquitex Acrylic Blue Paint
- Paint Brushes
- 2″ Styrofoam Ball
- 5″ Stryofoam Ball
- Googley Eyes
- Yellow and White Construction Paper
- Hot Glue Sticks
- Hot Glue Gun
- Pipe Cleaners

*”Blue” may be substituted with the color(s) of your choice!

To start, paint the styrofoam balls blue.

Cut out eye shapes and a beak from the Construction Paper and 5″ long feather shapes for the wings and 4″ long feather shapes for the tail from the Tissue Paper.

Glue face pieces to the 2″ ball.

Glue the wing and tail Tissue Paper feathers to the 5″ ball. This will help to make the finished feathers and wings look more lush. Let Dry.

Stick the blue Feathers into the ball just above where you had glued the Tissue Paper Feathers.

Stick a Pipe Cleaner into the bottom of the 2″ ball (bird head). Trim the Pipe Cleaner down to make a neck and stick the other end of the Pipe Cleaner into the top of the 5″ ball (body). Bend the ends of Orange Pipe Cleaners to make feet shapes. Stick the feet into the bottom of the 5″ ball.

Bend an additional Pipe Cleaner in half and stick rear end of the bird (ha!). This will help stabilize the bird so that it can stand and balance.

Put Azure the Bird out on display for everyone to enjoy!
