It’s Find a Rainbow Day!

Hi Scribblers!

With sunny skies, it may not be the best day to find a rainbow- but we can still take today make a rainbow craft and think about how beautiful they are! Today we made a rainbow window sticker!

Using contact paper and permanent colored markers, you can create your own rainbow sticker! A rainbow is made up of seven primary colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. In school, I was taught to remember the colors by the name, “Roy G. Biv.” Each letter is the first letter of a color in the color order they appear in the rainbow!

Rainbows tend to symbolize peace and happiness and in children’s shows (such as Dora the Explorer), they are associated with happiness and laughter. The bright colors are appealing to children. Why don’t you take some time today to sit down with your little one and teach them about rainbows and how they are formed? The next time there is a sun shower, take the opportunity to look for and find a rainbow with your kids!

Happy Scribbling!

A Winter Sun Catcher!

Hi Scribblers,

I love making crafts and my mind is always buzzing with new ideas but being just a few days after the holidays…I was having a hard time coming up with ideas! I was looking out the window admiring the sunny day and how warmed it seemed to be (it’s a chilling 20 degrees here today!!), when I  thought- aha! a sun catcher! So, to combine warmth with winter, I made this Mitten Sun Catcher!

To make this craft, you will need:
-Contact Paper
-Tissue Paper
-Construction Paper
-Scissors
-Hole Puncher
-Ribbon

To start, draw a mitten shape on a piece of construction paper. It will need to be large enough so that you can cut out the inside as well.

Cut out the mitten shape and lay flat onto a piece of contact paper.

Cut up colorful piece of tissue paper. I made little pieces about an inch long.

Sprinkle the tissue paper pieces into the center cut out area of the mitten.

When you have finished placing all the tissue paper pieces, add a few extra to fill in any empty spaces and carefully flatten out any pieces that may have curled up.
Place another piece of contact paper over the finished mitten.

Cut out the mitten from the contact paper, trimming just outside the edge of the construction paper.

Punch a hole into the mitten cuff, string a ribbon loop onto it, hang up and enjoy!
