Hi Scribblers,
As you know, I love found art! Found art is anything you FIND that can be considered ART. It could be graffiti, an old house, a mural on a sidewalk or even a pile of scraps of garbage that you found on the street…basically, it is anything that you find that for a quick moment makes you stop to consider its beauty, complexity or simplicity.
Well, today I came across a real zinger!

Found in Lower Manhattan (unknown artist)
This bike has been yarn-bombed! Yarn-bombing is when someone decides to cover an ordinary object with crocheted yarn.
There has been one NYC local who has been making quite the impression with her yarn bombing.

The Cube at Astor Place, NYC
“Olek” is a guerrilla artist who is known for her yarn-bombing and her work is easily recognized!

The Wall Street Bull, NYC
As you can see, she tends to make a certain camoflauge pattern out of pink, green, blue and black yarn.

Found in Brooklyn, NY
I only recently came to understand what yarn-bombing is, but I am certainly blown away!
If you want to see how she does it, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtGSnUgniTs&feature=player_embedded
These artists not only have to plan ahead and take a considerable amount of time creating these things, but they do it quickly, with a perfect fit and without ever informing the owners of the objects, pieces, statues, etc of their artistic plans!
Have you seen yarn-bombing in your home town or city? We would LOVE to see what kinds of cool things you’ve found! Please share your pictures with us on facebook.com/scribbletown!
