Make a Fall Family Tree

Today I was looking out the window at the beautiful trees and the leaves changing color and somehow started thinking about making a “family tree.”

Fall Family Tree

This craft is so easy to make, a great way to bond with the family, and is cute to have around the house as fall decor!

To make, simply go out with your little ones and explore nature! Ask your kids to find various sizes and different types of leaves. The freshly fallen, flatter leaves work best! Also find a fallen branch with no leaves on it (or remove the leaves). I used a branch about 2 feet tall that had various sprigs coming off of it.

Once you have gathered your supplies from outdoors, it’s time to make some leaf rubbings! To do this you will need several pieces of white paper, crayons (with the labels removed) and scissors.

Lay the leaves face down on a piece of paper on a table or hard surface.

Cover with another piece of paper. Rub across the paper covering the leaf by holding the crayon sideways.

You can make your leaf rubbings more colorful (giving it more texture) by rubbing over the same leaf twice using two different colors.

Make several different leaves making sure to have at least enough for the members of your family and a few extra for decoration. Cut out the leaves.

Write down the names of the members of your family; one name per leaf.

Tape the leaves onto the branch.

Place in a vase and display for your family and visitors!

Get Creative with Fall!

Hi Scribblers!

The beauty of Fall is without question. The smell of autumn, the changing colors of the leaves, the picturesque landscape scenes…what’s not to love? Here is a Fall inspired craft to bring that autumnal beauty into the home!

Autumn Leaf Wreath

To make this craft, simply have your little ones gather as many colorful leaves as they can. The freshly fallen leaves are best since they are the most pliable and have not yet dried out or curled.

To start, cut the center out of a paper plate. Punch a hole into either side of the rim of the plate. You will do this so that you you can tie a piece of yarn or string across it’s width. This will be used to hang your wreath when finished.

Trim the stems off of the leaves.

If you would like, you can paint your plate a fall color (red, orange, yellow) for added flair. Next, layer and glue down leaves with a hot glue gun starting with the largest leaves on the base of the plate. As you work your way around the plate and get to more layers of leaves, you can alternate between large and small sizes. Be sure to use as many bright colors as you can and heavily layer the leaves. As the leaves dry out they will shrink slightly.

Let glue dry, hang up your finished wreath and enjoy!

Inspired by Fall & M&M’s!

Hi Scribblers,

Yesterday, we put up a post about an M&M ad. In this ad, M&M’s were inspired by Fall and created Fall leaves out of Autumn colored M&M’s. Today, I was inspired by the M&M ad and made an Autumn tree made from magazine ads!

To make this colorful tree, simply flip through a few magazines with your little ones. Have them find ads that have colors in them that are common for Fall such as Red, Yellow, Orange, Burgandy, and maybe a little Green for added flare!

Next, help your little ones cut out leaf shapes from the magazine ads.

Once you have cut out a generous amount of “leaves,” assemble them onto a piece of cardstock to look like a tree top. (If you do not have cardstock, you can create a sturdy piece or paper by gluing several pieces of construction paper together.)

After you have glued all of your leaf pieces in places, cut out the border of any white cardstock that may be showing around the edges.

Next, cut five 2″ slits into one end of an empty paper towel roll. Bend pieces out and staple onto a piece of cardboard to create a sturdy base.

Cut two 2″ slits into the other end of the empty paper towel roll and insert cardstock covered in “leaves.”

Add leaves to the top pieces of the empty papertowel roll to hide the top of the “trunk” and leaves at the base of the trunk to show fallen leaves.

Enjoy!

Candied Autumn Leaves!

Hi Scribblers,

I was flipping through a magazine when I came across this:

M&M's inspired by Fall!

I absolutely loved this! It’s so creative-in fact, this little ad has given me a fall inspired idea that I plan to work on for tomorrow!

Do you like to make Fall crafts? What have you made that looks like leaves? What have you made out of candy pieces? We would love to see the crafts you’ve been working on!
